Courses for Professionals


Many of our palliative care educational programs provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs). All are designed to meet the needs not only of those new to palliative care but also experienced palliative care professionals. In addition, we offer our programs both online and in classroom settings at Cal State San Marcos, participating California State University campuses, and in local community facilities in the San Diego area.

Aromatherapy in Palliative CareAromatherapy in Hospice and Palliative Care (NEW)


We’ve designed a great program to teach aromatherapy and its application in hospice and palliative care in both classroom and online settings. We’re currently running some beta classes to fine tune the curriculum and will be offering a self-paced aromatherapy course online beginning this summer.

This 6-week course is for chaplains and others providing spiritual care for those with serious or chronic illness. These families frequently encounter mental health issues that can be very challenging. This course, developed by HealthCare Chaplaincy Network and offered by the CSU Institute for Palliative Care provides essential knowledge of prevalent mental-health issues and the opportunity to build their skills and confidence working in these situations.

This course is for anyone in Southern California, but especially health care professionals, who wish to increase their ability to assist with spiritual and emotional care of the dying without sacrificing themselves. The RN Certificate in Palliative Care is a dynamic 8-week online course aimed at enhancing nurses' competencies and knowledge of palliative care. The curriculum provides essential knowledge for professionals who deliver, or want to learn more about delivering, palliative nursing care regardless of the setting (hospice, inpatient/outpatient palliative care, oncology, long-term care, etc.) SEE VIDEO description. 

The course work is fully online and delivered in a continuously available and easily accessible format that allows nurses greater flexibility in balancing work responsibilities with furthering their own development.
